  19. Center of Excellence in Low-energy Ion-Beam Research and Applications Concept Operation of a “Center of Excellence in Low-energy Ion-Beam Research and Applications”. The acronym LIBRA refers to the “balance” between fundamental research and applications the project seeks to achieve. • Objectives • To enhance further the research potential of the Tandem Accelerator Laboratory and its research group through the implementation of the coherent set of measures provided by the FP7/REGPOT programme. LIBRA targets three different research directions: • The study of stellar nucleosynthesis, with special emphasis on the so-called p process. • The experimental search for dynamical symmetries in nuclear structure, and • The development and implementation of novel nuclear techniques in cultural heritage studies, biomedicine research, environment monitoring and ion-beam micro-machining.
