Hybrid Courses • What are Hybrid Courses? • Also called a “blended course” • Courses where students meet for face to face classes while parts of the course are provided online through course delivery software (LMS) • LMS is Learning Management System – Moodle, Brain Honey, D2L, and others • Implementation in other Districts • Districts as small as WCA (app. 500 students) to Anoka-Hennepen • Mounds View, New Prague, Bloomington, Simley HS, Fegus Falls, Centennial, and many more • WCA student video

  3. OHS – Hybrid Courses • Last Year- Some of our Late Starts focused on Hybrid Learning. In the spring, Dr. Johnson asked if anyone would be interested. • Interested- • College Readiness • Online resources and feedback • Previous Experience • Lab space • Flexibility

Moodle Training (All of us) Over the Summer • Lauren, Jess, Erin, Angie, Cassie, Denise, Connie, and Teri were all trained on how to use Moodle. • Lauren, Jess and Erin decided to implement for the fall for full courses • Curriculum Development was individually done. We each looked at how we could chunk our content in order to deliver a rigor hybrid learning experience for our students.

  5. Communication • Students • Moodle/Blog Guidelines • Common Language for Hybrid Classes • Instructional Day • Workshop Day • Moodle Guidelines and Acceptable Use Policy was discussed in class. Taken home to parents to be signed and returned in order for student to stay in class.

  7. What does Moodle look like? • AP World History • Lectures and Presentations, Notes, Discussion Forums, Online & Offline Assignments, Video Clips, Announcements • Composition • Links, Online & Offline Assignments, Samples, Smart Board Lessons, Daily Guided Instructions, Announcements

  8. Instructional Tools beyond Moodle • Live@edu • Skydrive • Microsoft Office Products • Editing/ File Sharing • Email • Embedded Content • TokBox • Voki • Video Clips

  9. Feedback • Survey- questions about Hybrid/ Moodle Delivery System • Positive • AP World History • Composition • Parents Feedback • Conversations at Conferences • No Negative Feedback from Parents

Increase/ Vary / Try out Instructional Tools Online Office Hours Online Peer Edit Groups Flip Classroom- Grammar Units • Curriculum is working. • Workshop/ Instructional Days Structure is working. • Instructional Tools that we currently use are working.
