  3. PREMBLE STRUCTURE

  4. 1. Mrs. M. PREM PYARI 2. BESIDE 305, EC DEPT., HCST 3. 9897223741 4. prempyari@rediffmail.com 5. MEETING HOURS– 1.30 pm – 2.30 pm and other than scheduled classes whenever I am available. TEACHER’S INTRODUCTION

  5. PREREQUISITES • Basic Knowledge of units and Dimensions (Before 12th standard) • (12th standard) • Usage of Statistics & applications • Knowledge of Electronic Components HOLLISTIC FIX OF EIM

  6. HOLLISTIC FIX………Continued • PRE REQUISTES • (3rd Semester) • Fundamentals of Electronic Devices • Basic Knowledge of Electrical Technology • Digital Electronics

  7. ADVANCE COURSE (5th - 6h SEM) • Antenna & Wave Propagation • Analog and Digital Communication • Radar & Navigation • Microwave Engineering • Biomedical Instrumentation • Virtual Instrmentation HOLLISTIC FIX OF EIM………Continued

  8. SCOPE IN RELATED FIELDS… PLC Designer Quality & Maintenance Engineer. (Instrument Calibration) Instrumentation & Control Engineer. Embedded system Engineer. Scientist in Bio-Medical/ Bio Technology field HOLLISTIC FIX OF EIM…….Continued

  9. Elements of a measuring instrument KEY CONCEPTS RELATED TO EIM

  10. What is an Instrument? Tool – like a screw driver, Gadget – like a remote control for a TV set, Device – like a power supply, Apparatus – like a distillation plant, Machine – like a centrifuge, Mechanism – like a rock and pinion type gear Equipment – washing machine, OR anything else – Understanding Instrumentand Instrumentation

  11. A Laboratory Instrument may have – Some thing as an input – Input Signal from user Voltage / Current, Speed, Colour, Light pH / Conductivity . . . . . Some thing to work with this input – Processing Amplify, Filter, Convert to other form . . . . . . . Some output – End product back to user Display end result, Control some device, Make it available for other instrument . . . . . .

  12. For effective use and repair/maintenance of an instrument, we must- Know the instrument. Try to understand the purpose of the instrument. Find out basic blocks of the instrument. What is the relationship of each block with the other? Understand how it is to be operated? Do’s and Don'ts with the instrument. Limitations of the instrument. Cost of the instrument? Who may help for the instrument. How? Through Service Manual of the Instrument

  13. Sampling BASIC SAMPLING EXAMPLE FOR A POPULATION CENSUS Also watch-- http://nptel.iitm.ac.in/showVideo.php?v=WUCMavXbJo4

  14. Next stage to obtain a Digital signal after Sampling is quantization Also watch-- http://nptel.iitm.ac.in/showVideo.php?v=oFEOryECzug

  15. Main cause for degradation of pulse is noise • Regenerative repeaters are used to get the pulse in its original form

  16. Modulation is a technique where the properties of a carrier wave changes in accordance with the digital data.

  17. Synchronization Transmitter & receiver section of the Communication Equipment should behave sequentially

  18. Error Control Coding Coding is done to remove the interference CHARLIE TO ALPHA!!!!!! CHARLIE TO ALPHA!!!!!!! The interference can cause the distortion of data. Once the coding is done, data becomes error free & can be detected uniquely
