  15. COMMUNICATION STRUCTURE Championship Staff Committee Chairs Volunteers Please communicate with your assigned chairperson about any schedule changes. The volunteer services desk will be staffed each day in VHQ. Please let us know if you have any questions!

  16. VOLUNTEER HANDBOOK • Electronic in 2014, view it on the volunteer page! • Pick up a pairings guide for the course map • If you don’t know the answer, try to find it!

  17. MARSHAL ROLES • Crowd Control - allow players to compete w/o distraction • Stand, face the crowd, hands raised • Restrict movement around the greens • “Quiet Please” and signs • Cell phone policy - Look spectators in the eye and remind them of the cell phone policy before players approach your area • No photos/video Thursday-Sunday

  18. MARSHAL ROLES • Ball Spotting – GOAL: never lose a golf ball! • Tee Box will have directional paddle or use hat to signal direction of tee shot • Landing area will mark any errant shots with a flag so it is easily found as the player approaches • Chairs will be placed near where spotters should be positioned, off the fairways

  19. MARSHAL ROLES • Crosswalks – provide a clear path for players and caddies, make sure spectators can cross holes safely and without distracting players • Crosswalks will be marked and may have drop ropes to hold crowds back • Actively monitor crosswalk signaling to spectators when they may proceed • Use good judgment when to let spectators cross • Act as an additional ball spotter when crowds are absent

  20. MARSHAL TRAINING • Best Practices • Do not initiate conversation with players/caddies • No autographs while on duty (must be outside the ropes) • Use directional paddle on tee • Reminders • Do not touch a player’s golf ball • Do not try to give advice or a ruling • If necessary, assist in moving a rope when directed by a caddie or player • Never move a hazard or OB stake

  21. MARSHAL TRAINING • Check in at the VOLUNTEER SERVICES DESK in Volunteer Headquarters EVERY DAY (15-30 minutes before your shift), then proceed to your assigned hole. • You will be given the location to meet your Hole Captain or your position assignment on the hole. • Hole Captains or a Marshal supervisor will check to make sure you are properly placed on the hole.
