  1. Evaluation Joshua Kirton

  2. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? • Our product is inspired by films from action, thriller, gangster type films. The product does not begin with an establishing shot. The characters are all introduced with freeze frames on them like in Goodfellas, Lock, Stock and Two smoking barrelsand the screens freeze on the main characters to explain a little about them. • I think our film is greatly inspired by existing films and lacks some originality. Instead of following on one specific genre, it would have been better to take a blend of genres to make a hybrid genre

  3. How does your media product represent particular social groups? • Women are not featured or represented in our media product , only men of the age of the target audience. The gang has a mix of black and white members (1 black, 2 white)The youngest member is presented as naive, inexperienced and at the bottom of the gang’s hierarchy. He is black. The leader of the gang is white , and is under a lot of stress. The gang’s weapons specialist is white, and is highly respected by others. The gang are not particularly elite in any way, in fact they in some ways seem incompetent. They failed a previous drug deal and are now in debt. I think that it would have been more interesting if the main characters were completely incompetent criminals who got by through dumb luck, and that one or more of the gang members was female

  4. Who would be the audience for your media product? • Our target audience is 15 - 21 year old males. The age rating of our film is 15. My edit of the film is cut so that it is suitable for viewing for those of the intended age group. I do not think our film should contain content not suitable for under 15 years olds, but the genre and plot of the film may not be suitable for those younger than 15

  5. How did you attract/address your audience? • The film is in the style of a gangster film • It is about a gang of minor criminals who have to pay off a massive debt they got themselves into. The protagonist is a small time crook who is owing money due to events which took place before the film. • The music featured in our opening is upbeat and has a fast tempo. • The film feature fast cars, guns, and other things featured in action films.

  6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? • I have learnt how to use Final Cut HD • I have learnt how capture footage straight from a camera • I have learnt how to add special effects to a movie and how to make freeze frames • I have learnt how to blog • I have learnt how to use a camcorder, tripod, microphone

  7. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression in it to the full product? • It is best to avoid a team of three people or less. This is because it is difficult to film with a small numbers and even more difficult if for whatever reasons one or more team members do not turn up. It also limits the amount of actors that can be onscreen simultaneously. • I have learnt numerous techniques regarding camera shots and things involved in making films.
