Step 1-Analyzing Performance-It essentially involves • Keeping the manager informed of the progress achieved in meeting performance criteria. • Making note of the various facilitating and inhabiting factors affecting working towards performance criteria. • Obtaining periodic comments & suggestions for improvement from the manager. Step 2- Reinforcing Right Efforts- This step pertains to encouragement, support,& visibility which the manager provides to the employees for making the correct progress in work as per the performance plan. Step 3-Improvement plans-Generally,itis felt that only employees lacking in performance needs to be given improvement plans.However,it only partially correct as good performers also need to be given performance improvement plans in order to keep abreast with the latest changes and development with in & outside the organization. Thus, Performance managing involves the following: • Employee keeping his manager periodically informed about progress in his work with respect to performance criteria being set in the performance planning stage. • Employee noting down separately the various internal & external factors which facilitating factors & inhabiting factors respectively; • At the end of each performance cycle, the employee reporting his performance based on the achievement of performance criteria and other facilitating factors, as well as inhibiting factors affecting his performance to his manager.
