  2. Negligent (adj) • failing to exercise the care expected of a reasonably careful person in like circumstances • Synonyms: careless, neglectful, slack

  3. turmoil (n) • a state or condition of extreme confusion, agitation, or commotion • Synonyms: chaos, unrest, disorder

  4. deter (v) • to turn aside, to discourage, or to prevent from acting • Synonyms: discourage, dissuade, inhibit

  5. adage (n) “If gold should rust, what will iron do?” -The Canterbury Tales Prologue, the Parson description- • a saying often in metaphorical form that embodies a common observation • Synonyms: proverb, motto, maxim

  6. miserly (adj) • a mean person who is stingy with money • Synonyms: cheap, stingy, uncharitable, penny-pinching

  7. fastidious (adj) • very careful about how you do something • Synonyms: picky, particular, demanding

  8. auspicious (adj) • Showing that good fortune/success is in store • Synonyms: cheerful, optimistic, encouraging

  9. Homework- Due, Tomorrow! Write an original sentence using each vocabulary word. -Make sure each sentence contains context clues that hint at the word’s meaning: Failure to do so will result in a lower score. -Please circle the vocabulary word and underline the context clue(s) in each sentence.
