The Network • Provides a forum to address issues of common interest and concern • Sharing good practice • Action planning to address education disadvantage locally • Group procurement of services and resources • A liaison point for other stakeholders in the community • Information exchange • Working with others in the community to secure supports and services that benefit Ballymun children

  4. Network Support Ballymun Partnership is our key support • Secretarial support • Financial support • Induction programme for teachers new to the area • Identifying and linking local /national /international resources for the benefit of the schools • Providing opportunities to explore possibilities for new programmes.

  5. Current Work • Literacy improvement –our key task - working with Youngballymun in designing and implementing a literacy programme for Ballymun • Promoting school attendance • Developing quality standards for teaching and learning

  6. Ballymun School Attendance Community Action Initiative What schools do currently: Actively promote good attendance Reward good and improved attendance Weekly, monthly rewards Acknowledge parental effort Provide in-school support for pupils with poor attendance / potential early school leavers

  7. Attendance What schools do: Provide Early Bird clubs/Afterschool clubs and Healthy lunches Respond to patterns of non-attendance through Attendance Care Teams Implement a common approach in recording attendance Share attendance records for monitoring and improving attendance across Ballymun

  8. Benefits for the schools • Improved awareness of the importance of regular attendance at school • Increase in attainment levels • Improved relationships -pupil -teacher -parents • Increase in self –esteem, self-awareness and well-being

  9. Challenges for Schools • Making schools MATTER for all pupils • Working with parents to improve attendance • Developing awareness of the long-term benefits gained from a good attendance record.

  11. Parents • Bring children to school on time • Be prepared for the day- • Leave children in school • Only keep your child at home if really sick • Talk positively about school to your child • Send children to bed early!!

  13. What can the Community do? Be time conscious! • 9:00a.m. school starts Ask questions! Give plenty of praise and encouragement

  14. What can the community do? Everybody has a role Together we can make a difference!
