Policy and Procedural Update • Recent decisions by the Provost’s Advisory Committee on Postdoctoral Scholars: • Postdoctoral appointments may be made for up to 3 years initially • New Offer Letter Language • New Required Enclosure • Visa start and end dates must coincide with appointment dates • How to make corrections to offer letters • Amendments vs. new letters Office of Postdoctoral Affairs Stanford University

BISNet Update • December Department Charges File • Early processing due to Winter Closure (would normally be due on the last business day of the month) • PTA/BISNet entry due date: Tuesday, December 15th 2009 • Note that this coincides with the first December GFS Salary entry due date! • Current October Dept Charges File Office of Postdoctoral Affairs Stanford University

Reminders from the Fellowships Office • NIH/NRSA workshops – mandatory for all postdocs applying.  Refer to http://ora.stanford.edu/grantsgov/fellowships.asp - • Contact Lisa Forgatsch (forgat1@stanford.edu) or enroll in STARS (via Axess). • Internal deadline – Final proposals and all paperwork are due at 9:00 am 5 working days before sponsor’s deadline, regardless of whether or not they need institutional approval. • http://med.stanford.edu/rmg/fellowships.html • http://med.stanford.edu/rmg/funding/ • Courier – Monday, Wednesday, Friday Office of Postdoctoral Affairs Stanford University

Winter Closure Dates and Deadlines • OPA will be closed from December 21, 2009 through January 1, 2010. • OPA will re-open on Monday, January 4, 2010 • Remaining New Postdoc Orientation sessions in 2009 will be on: November 5, 12, 19 and December 3, 10 and 17. • No Orientation session scheduled on November 26, 2009 • Deadlines to submit appointment paperwork to OPA for processing before winter closure: • Postdocs requiring visas: November 25, 2009 • US Citizens: December 1, 2009 • Deadline to submit any DS-2019 initial or extension requests to OPA for processing before winter closure: November 25, 2009 Office of Postdoctoral Affairs Stanford University
