You can find it in both forms as a generic drug or brand-name drug, where generic drugs are less expensive than the brand-name drug. If you are undergoing any neuropathic pain (nerve pain) caused by shingles (herpes zoster), a painful rash, and seizures in children above 2 years of age and adults then this medication will be helpful for you. Gabapentin tablets are available in three forms as immediate-release oral tablets, extended-release oral tablets, and an oral solution. For seizures: this medication increases the blood calcium level because low calcium levels are the cause of seizures. For neuralgia: this medication lowers the sensitivity to pain. Who can’t take Gabapentin tablets? ● Patient of liver, kidney, or heart disease. ● A person with behavioral changes like mood swings and depression ● Diabetic person ● People having a history of drug abuse. ● Patients of lung disease like chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder(COPD). A person may come across with suicidal thoughts in case of depression. Tell your doctor if you have any of these problems.

  2. Know the proper dosage information Based on strengths, these tablets are available in forms: Gabapentin 100mg, Gabapentin 300mg, and Gabapentin 400mg. For adults: For postherpetic neuralgia: ● 300mg on day 1. ● Gabapentin 600mg on day 2(300mg twice a day). ● 300mg thrice a day on day 3. Maximum dose (only with doctor’s consent): 1800mg (Gabapentin 600mg thrice a day). For epilepsy: ● 300mg on day 1. ●Gabapentin 600mg on day 2(300mg twice a day). ● 300mg thrice a day on day 3. Maximum dose (only with doctor’s consent): 3600mg (1200mg in three doses). The gap in these 3 doses in case of maximum dose should not be more than 12 hours. Not recommended for children below 3 years. For adults above 64 years, start with less dose to avoid an accumulation of drugs due to slow kidney processing. Gabapentin 800mg is also available for the treatment of post-herpetic neuralgia and painful diabetic neuropathy. Be aware of these symptoms of Gabapentin ● Rapid eye movements ● Hyperactive body movements ● Low concentration ● Mood swings and restlessness ● Aggression and clumsiness ● Anxiety and depression A few of these side effects lead to suicidal thoughts so consult a doctor if they are recurring. Remember these warnings regarding Gabapentin tablets ● It can cause symptoms like rashes, difficulty in breathing, and swelling in the throat or lips if you are allergic to it. ● Pregnant and breastfeeding women should avoid this medication. ● Avoid consumption of alcohol. ● It can cause multi-organ hypersensitivity in severe cases.
