  1. What are the Different Types of Weight Loss Surgeries? Being fit is an essential element to lead a healthy lifestyle. It helps a person to live life to its fullest potential without being mentally or physically unfit. Unhealthy lifestyle leads to deterioration of one’s well-being. Obesity is one such problem that leads to an unhealthy lifestyle. Majority of obese people can lose their weight by consuming a healthy diet and exercising regularly. But, if you are unable to reduce weight even with regular exercises and diet plan, then you may be recommended to undergo Bariatric Surgery. Weight loss surgery helps to reduce weight faster and lowers the risk of medical problems associated with obesity. There are four major types of weight loss surgeries. Based on your health and a few other factors, your doctor may recommend you undergo one of the following surgeries: SLEEVE GASTRECTOMY It is a type of bariatric surgery where a part of the stomach is separated and then removed from the body. The remaining segment of the stomach is formed into a tube-like structure. The smaller stomach makes the food intake restricted. However, it does not affect the absorption of calories and nutrients in the intestine but reduces your desire to eat. ROUX-EN-Y GASTRIC BYPASS In a gastric bypass surgery, a small pouch is created at the top of the stomach. The pouch is the only part of the stomach that receives food. This greatly limits the amount that you can eat and drink at one time.

  2. The small intestine is then connected to the new pouch. Food, then directly slows from the pouch into this part of the intestine. The main part of the stomach continuously makes the digestive juices. Moreover, the portion of the intestine that is still attached to the main stomach is then reattached farther down. The digestive juices are allowed to flow to the small intestine. Fewer nutrients and calories are absorbed because food now bypasses a portion of the small intestine. LAPAROSCOPIC ADJUSTABLE GASTRIC BANDING In this procedure, a small pouch is created with the help of a band which contains an inflatable balloon placed around the upper part of the stomach. A port is placed under the skin of the abdomen. The port is connected to the band with the help of a tube. The balloon can be inflated or deflated by removing fluid through the port to adjust the size of the band. This surgery restricts the amount of food that your stomach can hold, so you feel full sooner. But, it doesn’t decrease the calories and nutrients absorbed. BILIOPANCREATIC DIVERSION WITH DUODENAL SWITCH This procedure begins by removing a large part of the stomach. The food that is released by the valve to the small intestine is left, along with the initial part of the small intestine (known as the Duodenum). Then the middle section of the intestine is closed, and the last portion is directly attached to the duodenum. This is the Duodenal switch. The separated section of the intestine is reattached to the end of the intestine, instead of being removed, which allows bile and pancreatic digestive juices to flow into this part of the intestine. This is the biliopancreatic diversion. Resulting in the limited absorption of calories and nutrients. This, collectively with the smaller size of the stomach, leads to weight loss. Now that you know about the major types of weight loss surgeries, you might want to know which type is the most suitable for you. For this you will have to consult your doctor and go through all the risks, benefits, etc. of each type to get the best possible results. You might also wonder from where to get this surgery done at the lowest possible price. If this is so, then India is the best option for you. The cost of Bariatric Surgery in India starts from USD 5,300 which is only a fraction of the price of the treatment provided in other western countries like the USA. Moreover, the quality of the surgery and the technology used are similar to that of USA and other developed nations.
