  2. Not just Bells and Whistles • It is easy to get caught up in the glitz and panache of PowerPoint. • So lets look at what PowerPoint is not and then look at what it can be!!!!

  3. PowerPoint is not… • PowerPoint does not replace good instruction…it only enhances it. • Resist the urge to make PowerPoint a glorified slide show…it should be much more. • PowerPoint is not entertainment…it must be instruction.

  4. PowerPoint is way to capture the attention of your audience through… Interactivity Web Resources Simulations

  5. PowerPoint is way to capture the attention of your audience through… Slide Timings Video Sound Problem Solving

  6. Interactivity This is the opportunity to involve the class in the flow of the lesson. Accomplish this by building pauses questions quizzes …into the lesson.

  7. Web Resources This is the opportunity to link to the World Wide Web during the lesson. Accomplish this by building Web Links Web Sites Applets …into the lesson.

  8. Simulations This is the opportunity to introduce active demonstrations during the lesson. Accomplish this by building Web Simulations CD Simulations Applet Simulations …into the lesson.

  9. Slide Timings This is the opportunity to control the flow the lesson. Accomplish this by building Slide order Slide transitions Slide timings …into the lesson.

  10. Video This is the opportunity to include Captured Video into the lesson. Accomplish this by Capturing your own Video Downloading Video Creating Video …and inserting them into the lesson.

  11. Sound This is the opportunity to include Sound Files in the lesson. Accomplish this by building Capturing your own Sound Downloading Sound Creating Sound …and inserting them into the lesson.

  12. Problem Solving This is the opportunity to involve the class in the outcome of the lesson. Accomplish this by building Problems Critical Thinking Questions Open Ended Questions …into the lesson.

  18. Print it? • There are four options to print • Slides • Handouts • Note pages • Outline … choose the right one for you.

  19. Which one? • Slides are just that, the “slides”. • Handouts are scaleable, • select how many per page and • the layout. • Note pages are for students • select how many per page and • the layout. • Outline is just the “outline”.

  20. What next? • Get your students using PowerPoint • Projects? • Labs? • Assignments? • Reviews? • Extra Credit? …Then use them in class!!!
