  2. THE FORESTS OF THE CONGO BASIN Crossing 11 borders, covering around 50 % of Central Africa, the Congo Basin forest ecosystem allows more than 70 million people to live on these lands. Essential in climate establization, it is thanks to the Basin that the world, and Africa in particular, can mitigate climate and contribute to adapation. Thus the need for REDD.
