The 7th Grade Resource Language Arts curriculum focuses on improving reading and writing for students who find these subjects challenging. Utilizing effective intervention programs such as Corrective Reading for phonics, fluency, and comprehension, and Soar to Success for vocabulary development, students will track their fluency rates and engage with high-interest stories. In writing, students will follow the Step Up to Writing program, enhancing skills across various genres. Parents are encouraged to play an active role in study habits and homework practices, ensuring students meet high expectations for success.

Resource Language Arts Reading Curriculum: The class will utilize two intervention programs: --Corrective Reading program - Decoding (phonics), fluency (speed), and comprehension activities. Students will track their own fluency rates with each lesson. --Soar to Success – Comprehension, vocabulary. High-interest stories and artwork. Students will add to their list of books read!
Writing • Writing Curriculum: - Step Up to Writing – Strategies for note-taking, using graphic organizers, short-answer and essay responses - 6-Trait Writing Rubric - Ideas and Content, Organization, Voice, Word Choice, Sentence Fluency, Conventions • Genres of writing - narrative writing, informational writing, persuasive writing, expository writing (compare/contrast)

At home… • Study space: Parent’s role vs. student independence • Homework: Practice, practice, practice. Homework will be a review of skills learned previously. When a student is absent, they may make up the work for full credit within 2 days. • Website: Stay informed of due dates and homework on Parent VUE and teacher websites. • Procedures: Weekend backpack checks! An organized backpack with the necessary supplies means less frustration for your child.
At school • Great attitude! High expectations = strong success! Students will be involved with their learning. • Behavior - school policies will apply. • Gradeswill be based on: 80% assessment; 20% homework/projects • Supplies for daily use: --Box of pencils --Glue sticks --Small scissors --2 composition books --2 clasp folders with pockets
