  2. What's wrong with being gay? • Homosexuality in different cultures • Societal attitudes toward homosexuality • Films, musical compositions about homosexuality • Our attitudes

  3. What's wrong with being gay? • The issue of homosexual behavior is paid more and more attention. • Many homosexuals' claim that… Homosexuality is of no harm to the participants or to anyone else. If it feels right to those involved, it is nobody else's business. Homosexual relationships and heterosexual relationships are equally valid. (Some even claim that the Bible condones homosexual relationships.)

  4. Homosexuals say that the slaves have been freed and women have been liberated, so gay rights are long overdue. Society does seem to be moving in that direction. Many homosexuals are “coming out” and openly declaring their homosexuality. • In many parts of the western world, homosexual couples receive the same recognition as heterosexual couples with regard to social security benefits. •Some church leaders are giving their blessing to homosexual relationships, homosexual church members and even homosexual ministers.

  5. homosexuality in different cultures • The 2007 Pew Global Attitudes Project: • "Should homosexuality be accepted by society?" Country Yes No • Canada70% 21% • United States 49% 41% • Mexico 60% 31% • Italy 65% 23% • Germany 81% 17% • Russia 20% 64% • Japan 49% 28% • China 17% 69%

  6. homosexuality in different cultures • In 2001, the Netherlands became the first country to recognize same-sex marriage, and same-sex marriages were subsequently recognized in Belgium (2003); • the U.S. states of Massachusetts (2004), • Spain and Canada (2005); • South Africa (2006); • California (2008 – later banned), Connecticut (2008), • Iowa (2009), Vermont (2009), • Maine (2009 – later repealed); • Norway (2009); Sweden (2009), • Iceland (2010), Portugal (2010) and Argentina (2010).

  7. World gets its first gay leader Iceland's Prime Minister First World Leader with Same-Sex Spouse Iceland's Prime Minister is now the world's first national leader with a same-sex spouse. On Sunday Prime Minister Johanna Sigurdardottir, 68, married her long time partner, writer Jonina Leosdottir. The marriage fell on the international day for gay rights, which was also the first day Iceland legalized same sex marriage as a "union between two consenting adults regardless of sex."

  8. homosexuality in different cultures Homosexuality in Iran: Iran is perhaps the nation to execute the largest number of its citizens for homosexuality. Since the 1979 Islamic revolution in Iran, the Iranian government has executed more than 4,000 people charged with homosexual acts. In Afghanistan after the fall of the Taliban, homosexuality went from a capital crime to one that it punished with fines and prison sentences.

  9. homosexuality in different cultures • Homosexuality in China Gay bashing is rare in modern China. The authorities do not actively promote gay issues in China. Although there is no law against homosexuality or same-sex acts between consenting adults, neither are there laws requiring people to accept individuals who engage in gay acts, and there are also no gay organizations in China. It is believed that the Chinese policy towards the gay issue remains the "Three nos": no approval, no disapproval, and no promotion . But Many cases show that those participating in gay activity are still punished by the justice system and pursued by the police, and may be detained and arrested.
