  1. Chemical Car Reaction

  2. CHEMICAL REACTION For our car we tried more than one reaction to make it move towards the finish line. • Our first idea was to construct a battery, thus we worked on making a copper and zinc sulfide battery. There a quite a few ways of going about this but we basically thought that if we could obtain strips of copper and zinc, along with copper and zinc sulfide, that we could create enough amps to run our car successfully. Here is a mini example of how our idea would work if done properly. You have zinc in zinc sulfide and copper in copper sulfide connected to the motor and a material in between(so the chemical don’t actually mix) the two chemicals so electrodes can still transfer through. Thus the result is a current that would supply electricity to the given car. This happens because the copper strips are decomposed in the sulfide and this sends electrons to the zinc so the zinc becomes a positive ion and the copper a negative ion. Zn(s) -> Zn2+(aq) + 2e- Cu2+(aq) + 2e- -> Cu(s) • When we found out that the battery couldn’t produce enough amps we switched to a more reliable chemical reaction. With the use of baking soda and vinegar, we combined the two chemicals to produce a gas to build up enough pressure to propel are little car. When maximum pressure was achieved in our car all we did was unscrew the lid to the top and watch it speed to its destination. CH3COOH + NaHCO3 -> H2O + NaOCOCH3 + CO2 VINEGAR+BAKING SODA=WATER+SODIUM ACETATE+CARBON DIOXIDE

  3. CAR DESIGN This car was relatively simple to make just four wheels attached to a easy kinex suspension and propel water bottle on top for propulsion.

  4. TEST RESULTS Here we have two trials, the first trial on the left is before the races and the trial on the right is during the firs set of races.

  5. CONCLUSION • In the end our car was able to run properly and move but the spew held us back and we weren't able to construct a battery powered car. Yet the car got to the finals and the construction that we used still was good to go.
