  1. “BE NOT WEARY” (Gal. 6:9) [By Ron Halbrook]

  2. “BE NOT WEARY” Introduction: 1. Battle with false teachers tested faith of Galatians: danger of discouragement, falling away Gal. 6:9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

  3. “BE NOT WEARY” Introduction: 2. Warnings of danger: Gal. 1:6-7 6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: 7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.

  4. 11 But when Peter was come to Antioch, I withstood him to the face, because he was to be blamed. 14 But when I saw that they walked not uprightly according to the truth of the gospel, I said unto Peter before them all, If thou, being a Jew, livest after the manner of Gentiles, and not as do the Jews, why compellest thou the Gentiles to live as do the Jews? Introduction: 2. Warnings of danger: Gal. 2:11, 14

  5. “BE NOT WEARY” Introduction: 2. Warnings of danger: Gal. 3:1 1 O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you?

  6. “BE NOT WEARY” Introduction: 2. Warnings of danger: Gal. 4:11, 16 11 I am afraid of you, lest I have bestowed upon you labour in vain. 16 Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?

  7. “BE NOT WEARY” Introduction: 2. Warnings of danger: Gal. 5:1, 7, 9, 15 1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.

  8. “BE NOT WEARY” Introduction: 2. Warnings of danger: Gal. 5:1, 7, 9, 15 7 Ye did run well; who did hinder you that ye should not obey the truth? 9 A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump.

  9. “BE NOT WEARY” Introduction: 2. Warnings of danger: Gal. 5:1, 7, 9, 15 15 But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another.

  10. “BE NOT WEARY” Introduction: 3. Gal. 6:1-10 in context of trials

  11. Gal. 6:1-5 1 Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. 2 Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ. 3 For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself. 4 But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another. 5 For every man shall bear his own burden.

  12. Gal. 6:6-10 6 Let him that is taught in the word communicate unto him that teacheth in all good things. 7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. 8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. 9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. 10 As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.

  13. “BE NOT WEARY” Introduction: 4. Our faith tested many ways: • Determined Opposition • Meager Results • Repetitive Nature of Our Work & Service

  14. “BE NOT WEARY” I. Tested by Determined Opposition A. Jeremiah Tested Jer. 20:7-9

  15. Jer. 20:7-9 7 O LORD, thou hast deceived me, and I was deceived: thou art stronger than I, and hast prevailed: I am in derision daily, every one mocketh me. 8 For since I spake, I cried out, I cried violence and spoil; because the word of the LORD was made a reproach unto me, and a derision, daily. 9 Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name. But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay.

  16. “BE NOT WEARY” I. Tested by Determined Opposition B. Apostles Tested Acts 4:29 29 And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word

  17. “BE NOT WEARY” I. Tested by Determined Opposition B. Apostles Tested Acts 5:41-42 41 And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name. 42 And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.

  18. “BE NOT WEARY” I. Tested by Determined Opposition C. Met by Determined Faith • Let God’s Word burn in our hearts, pray for boldness, & uphold the truth And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

  19. “BE NOT WEARY” II. Tested by Meager Results A. Elijah Tested I Kgs. 19:9-10, 18

  20. I Kgs. 19:9-10, 18 9 And he came thither unto a cave, and lodged there; and, behold, the word of the LORD came to him, and he said unto him, What doest thou here, Elijah? 10 And he said, I have been very jealous for the LORD God of hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away. ========== ========== ========== ========== ========= 18 Yet I have left me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him.

  21. “BE NOT WEARY” II. Tested by Meager Results B. Isaiah Tested Isa. 6:9-13

  22. Isa. 6:9-10 9 And he said, Go, and tell this people, Hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but perceive not. 10 Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and convert, and be healed.

  23. Isa. 6:11-13 11 Then said I, Lord, how long? And he answered, Until the cities be wasted without inhabitant, and the houses without man, and the land be utterly desolate, 12 And the LORD have removed men far away, and there be a great forsaking in the midst of the land. 13 But yet in it shall be a tenth, and it shall return, and shall be eaten: as a teil tree, and as an oak, whose substance [life, stump] is in them, when they cast their leaves [when cut down]: so the holy seed shall be the substance thereof.

  24. “BE NOT WEARY” II. Tested by Meager Results C. Christ Predicted Meager Results Matt. 7:13-14 13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

  25. “BE NOT WEARY” II. Tested by Meager Results D. Our Duty to Uphold the Truth, Leave the Results to God 1 Cor. 3:6-7, 10-11 6 I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. 7 So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase.

  26. I Cor. 3:10-11 10 According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon. 11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

  27. “BE NOT WEARY” II. Tested by Meager Results E. Meager Results Do Not Change the Truth or Our Duty • God always has His remnant And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

  28. “BE NOT WEARY” III. Tested by Repetitive Nature of Our Work & Service A. Repeat the Truth Over & Over 2 Pet. 1:12-15; 3:1-2

  29. 2 Pet. 1:12-15 12 Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth. 13 Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance; 14 Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me. 15 Moreover I will endeavour that ye may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance.

  30. 2 Pet. 3:1-2 1 This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance: 2 That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:
