  1. German Alumni Food Network (GAFooN)

  2. German Alumni Food Network (GAFooN) • has been established in 2006 to better coordinate activities and to support the knowledge exchange among the alumni and alumnae of German Universities. • It is the outcome of a joint effort of DAAD and the universities of Göttingen, Hannover and Hohenheim. • The GAFooN provides contact information from and for DAAD alumni and alumnae active in the areas of agriculture, food processing and nutrition. • The detailed tasks of the network will be • information exchange on new aspects of the agricultural, food and nutrition research, • establishment of project collaborations, • organisation of regional workshops, and • publicity work for the GAFooN at scientific events and fairs in the involved countries.

Previous activities in South East Asia • 2007: Joint workshop with the Chiang Mai University (Thailand): „Thermal methods for quality assurance in postharvest technology“ (local organizer: Prof. Dr. Suchada Vearasilp) • 2008: Joint workshop with the Chiang Mai University (Thailand) in Bangkok/Chiang Mai: „Drying Methods and Post-harvest Technologies“ (local organizer: Prof. Dr. Suchada Vearasilp)

  4. Previous activities • 2008: Expert seminarfor international alumni at the University of Göttingen: “Ensuring Food Quality within the Value-Added Chain: Demands under Global Conditions” • 2009: joint summer school with the University of Costa Rica (Costa Rica): “Global changes and the impact on food security and food safety in developing countries” (local organizer: Prof. Olman Quiros, Dr. Lili Hofmann)

  5. Previous activities • March 2009: Summer School at the University of Göttingen: “Postharvest technologies – High-Tec for food security and food safety” • November 2009: Autumn School at the Universities of Göttingen and Hannover: “Post-harvest Technology and Renewable Energy”

  6. Future activity • May 2010: joint International Workshop with the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, Nairobi (Kenia): „Modeling Post-Harvest Quality of High Value Crops in East Africa“ (see at http://www.gem.uni-hannover.de)
