  1. Technical presentation MBAA – Rocky Mountain District Meeting Wednesday, August 18, 2010 5:30 – 9:00PM At Tommyknocker Brewery and Pub, LLC 1401 Miner Street Idaho Springs, Co 80452

  2. “Small Town Brewing on Big Time Interstate”Presented by Larry Nemnich, Steve Indrehus and Jim Schwab

  3. The Beginning Tommyknocker Brewery and Pub opened its doors in December 1994 in historic downtown Idaho Springs in a building built in 1892. It was originally home to an old stage stop on the edge of the frontier. Later it would be known as the Placer Inn and become a bowling alley.

  4. Tommyknocker Brewery and PubIdaho Springs, Colorado Tim Lenahan, Charlie Sturdavant , Richard Cohen and Gerry Ware were the Founders of Tommyknocker Brewery and Pub. The Placer Inn located off exit 240 along I-70 was a perfect location for their dream. The doors opened December 4th, 1994 and the traffic from I-70 has been the lifeblood of the restaurant and pub. Most of the original equipment is still being used and the establishment has had steady and slow growth

  5. The Brew House • Steve Indrehus is the Head Brewer who has been with Tommyknocker’s for 14 years. • 20 bbl brew house • 9 people run the brewery/bottling and trucking dept. • 12 – 40 bbl fermenters and 2 -60bbl fermenters • Perlite is used in our filter to clear up filtered beers. • 6 -50 bbl bright beer tanks from where each beer gets allocated • IDD Mini King, run every keg twice with a 550 per month average • 1995 as 12 Head CIMEC Filler was purchased, last year we ran 82000 cases through it. • We should run our Millionth case through the filter towards the first of 2011

  6. The Brew House - cont • Bottling Line and Tunnel Pasteurizer • We run Maple Nut Brown Ale, Tundrabeary Ale, Cocoa Porter and our soda’s through the tunnel Pasteurizer. • Boiler 1.2 BTU’s is barely enough • We have examples of our beers unpasteurized vs pasteurized

  7. The Brew House –Cont’d • Brands – • Tommyknocker’s has seven (6) main brands • Seasonal and Premium Brands

  8. The Brew House – Cont’d • Tommyknocker’s Restaurant and Pub has 14 taps at the bar pouring 600bbl per yr • Last year the brewery put out 8698 bbls • An advantage of our location for brewing purposes is that we have nice soft water • that comes from the Idaho Springs reservoir that flanks Mt. Evans • All of our Two Row comes from Great Western Malting of Pocatello, Idaho

  9. Brewery Challenges • Being in a small mountain town, weather and employee base is often unpredictable • Updating our Image • Space – Tommyknocker’s Restaurant and Brewery outgrew the original facility some • time ago. Being so close to the Elementary School meant that even when • opportunity arose, we could not expand any further west. • In 2008, the property next door located at 1427 miner street was purchased. • plans for the property include adding: • 8000 square feet of brewery space, • Doubling the size of the kitchen • Adding 122 more seats to the restaurant, • A conference room. • Long term expansion plans include two vacation apartment • rentals and a feature deck.
