  2. THE YOUNGSTERS IN THE REGION PACA 575.442 youngsters (15-24 yearsold) live in Paca « Provence Alpes Cote D’Azur » Theyrepresent 12.2% of the total population of the region In july 2006 more than 23.000 younstersunder 25 wereunemployed (youngsterswith a lowerscholar background)

Considerations • It’s important to underline the improvements registered in the region, showed by the increased periods of compulsory education: in 1982 the percentage of the students of 15-19 years old was 83% (now 89%), same trend for the youngsters of 20-24 years old, 37% in 1982, 43% in the last ten years. • Anyway: In the region PACA 15% of youngsters in a NEET’S condition (not in education, employment or training), 11% in France.

  5. School failure in the region PACA • 162.000 students (16-29 years old): third region in France after Ile de France and Rhone Alpes. • Only the 20% of the youngsters concluded their school career (25% in Ile de France) • 45% of graduated students are females • 34% are males

Tax of youth poverty in the region Paca • Tax of general poverty in France in 2010: 5.9%of the population • Tax of youth poverty in France: 7.1% • In the Region PACA: 11.8% « Youth with lack of social and cultural homogeneity is one of the main revelation of the deep transition which lives in France at this moment, where we are facing new uncertainties and failure of the idea of progress ». Factors to consider in our analysis: Four main reasons influenced the social conditions of youngsters in the region: • Family and social class origins or social standing (second or third immigrant’s generation, rural areas, etc) • Scholar level • Gender: in the region, 91% of males (25-29 years old) are employed, whereas the females of the same age, 83%. • Low willingness to move over (mobility)

  8. Main difficulties for youngsters to find a job • Lack of experience • Lack of english skills • Discrimination • Lack of professional network • Lack of self confidence during an interview • Lack of knowledge on how to write a viable cv and covering letter

Solutions and networking in PACA • Insertion structures • VISTA (the role of the third sector in the region) • Job contracts offered to youngsters registered in a youth structure • Cooperation and creation of a regional network between the locals education authorities of Nice and Aix-Marseille with the ARDML (Union of Youth centers services) in the project « academique 2010-2014 ». • « Journées job d’été » Centre documentation jeunesse + Ministère de l’éducation nationale.

The importance of the trainings in PACA The insertion structures provide specific professional trainings for the youngsters with fewer opportunities in order to improve their opportunities for a better insertion in the local job market: • To learn by doing 47% • To obtain a qualification 44% • To have a career guidance 35% • To improve their skills 34% • To update their konowledge 23% • Others 4%

  12. Job Contracts Internship: 2 weeks / no salary Apprenticeship: 2 years / alternation between school and company Insertion contract in NGO or company: from 6 months/ salary between € 700 and 900

VISTA • Partnership between EUROCIRCLE, Youth centres in PACA, Gip Fipan ,international partners • Youngsters with fewer opportunities between 18 -25 years old • Opportunity to have an experience in Europe thanks to the YIA programme + professional internships with the leonardo project • Non formal education to help them integrate the work sector • Follow up of the youngsters to help them find a formation or a job after their experience abroad
