  1. Build Your Life Upon the Rock

  2. The Danger of Self-Deception in Religion.

  3. Many who claim to be Christians are self-deceived, blind to their true spiritual conditionbefore God!

  4. Matthew 7:21-22 (NASB) 21 "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven; but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven. 22 "Many will say to Me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?'

  5. Matthew 7:23 (NASB) "And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.'

  6. There is a false sense of security in superficial religion today.

  7. Jesus wants you to take an honest look at your life. “And why do you call Me Lord, Lord, and do not do what I say?”– Luke 6:46

  8. The Two Types of Foundations for Living. • The Rock (Mat. 7:24-25).

  9. Matthew 7:24-25 (NASB) 24 "Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine, and acts upon them, may be compared to a wise man, who built his house upon the rock. 25 "And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and burst against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded upon the rock.– Ephesians 2:19-20

  10. John 12:48 (NASB) "He who rejects Me, and does not receive My sayings, has one who judges him; the word I spoke is what will judge him at the last day.

  11. The Two Types of Foundations for Living. • The Rock (Mat. 7:24-25). • The Sand (Mat. 7:26-27).

  12. Matthew 7:26-27 (NASB) 26 "And everyone who hears these words of Mine, and does not act upon them, will be like a foolish man, who built his house upon the sand. 27 "And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and burst against that house; and it fell, and great was its fall."

  13. Most people build their lives on shifting, uncertain, and unstable sand. • Feelings • The external / superficial • Wealth & possessions • Worldly entertainment • Worldly wisdom / religious error • Self-centeredness • Any practice of sin or form of idolatry

  14. What’s Your “House” Built Upon? • Both builders appear to build well (Mat. 7:24-27). • Both houses may seem the same; both may look attractive and substantial on the outside. • Yet on the inside, at the heart and foundation of the house, there are big differences!

  15. Matthew 23:27-28 (NASB) 27 "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs which on the outside appear beautiful, but inside they are full of dead men's bones and all uncleanness. 28 "Even so you too outwardly appear righteous to men, but inwardly you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.

  16. The foolish builder appears to have a stable “house” when he does not! • The wise builder not only appears stable, but also has a solid foundation in Christ.

  17. Real stability comes from the foundation. • Both builders desired a house (shelter, protection, comfort). • Yet, security cannot come from the house alone.

  18. Job 8:15 (NASB) He trusts in his house, but it does not stand; He holds fast to it, but it does not endure.

  19. God will not bless a house with the wrong foundation: Proverbs 3:33 (NASB)The curse of the Lord is on the house of the wicked, but He blesses the dwelling of the righteous.

  20. God will not bless a house with the wrong foundation: Proverbs 14:11 (NASB)The house of the wicked will be destroyed, but the tent of the upright will flourish.

  21. The real strength and stability of any “house” is determined by using the right foundation.

  22. 1 Corinthians 3:11 (NASB) For no man can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

  23. Will your “House” Stand or Fall?

  24. Proverbs 12:7 (NASB) The wicked are overthrown and are no more, but the house of the righteous will stand.

  25. Tested by “the storms of life” • Rain = Various trials(1 Peter 1:6-7) • Floods = Persecution (John 15:18-19; 2 Timothy 3:12) • Winds = Satan’s attacks (Ephesians 6:10-13)

  26. The ultimate “storm” we must prepare for is THE JUDGMENT DAY.

  27. Nahum 1:3 (NASB) The Lord is slow to anger and great in power, and the Lord will by no means leave the guilty unpunished. In whirlwind and storm is His way, and clouds are the dust beneath His feet.

  28. Jeremiah 23:19 (NASB) Behold, the storm of the LORD has gone forth in wrath, even a whirling tempest; It will swirl down on the head of the wicked.

  29. Hebrews 9:27 (NASB) And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comesjudgment.

  30. Rather than ignore that the “storm” is coming, ready your “house” or life for the Judgment Day.

  31. Follow Jesus’ instructions and you will be prepared! Matthew 7:24 (NASB)"Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine, and acts upon them, may be compared to a wise man, who built his house upon the rock.- cf. James 1:22-25

  32. Luke 6:48 (NASB) he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid a foundation upon the rock; and when a flood rose, the torrent burst against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built.

  33. Standing right in the sight of God requires standing upon “the Rock” where grace and forgiveness of sins is found. (Titus 3:5-7)

  34. Build Your Life Upon the Only Sure Foundation: In Jesus Christ the Solid Rock We Stand!

  35. Psalms 18:1-2 (NASB) 1 I love Thee, O Lord, my strength." 2 The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
