  1. XMA Connector • Purpose: • To introduce the XMA wire-to-wire, crimp style connector from JST. • Objectives: • Illustrate the intended application. • Discuss the individual components of the series. • Review the application crimp tooling. • Content: • 10 Pages

  2. XMA Connector Wire-to-Wire Many applications require wire-to-wire, positive locking connections. The XMA Series, crimp-style connectors are offered wire-to-wire on a 2.5mm (.098”) pitch, molded in a RoHS compliant 94V-0 housings. The housings incorporate both keying anda secure, inertia locking feature and are designed to prevent contact stubbing / back-out when mated. Rated at 3A AC/DC (using 22AWG) at 250V. These robust connectors are available with a secondary retainer to ensure the contacts are fully seated and locked into the housings to prevent accidental release. The positive locking system is designed to fit inside the envelope of the mating housing. The series has an operating temperature range of -25 C to +85 C including temperature rise when applying an electrical current. The series is offered in 2~6 circuit sizes.

  3. XMA Connectorcrimp style contacts The XMA contacts, which are designed to accommodate a wire range of wire sizes (26AWG to 22AWG) are tin-plated over a copper alloy base material. The suggested wire strip length for the wire is 2.2mm (0.87”).

  4. XMA Connectorcrimp style receptacle & socket housings Molded in Glass-filled PBT UL rated 94V-0 material, the XMA Series housings incorporate keying, an inertia locking device to prevent accidental disconnection due to routing of wires or vibration. Available in 2 to 6 circuits, the inertia locking mechanism is designed for a secure and stable connection ideal for high vibration applications. It also prevents the contacts from making connection until the mating halves are fully locked. An audible click is heard and felt when mating the plug housing assembly with the mating half. With the use of an optional secondary retainer, the contacts are fully seated and locked into the housings making it ideal for a high vibration environment. Receptacle housing Plug housing Contact Retainer

  5. XMA Connector “Contact stubbing prevention” Optional Retainers The optional retainers ensure the contacts are fully seated and locked into the housings to prevent accidental release.

  6. XMA Connector “Contact stubbing prevention” The receptacle housings have a tapered lead-in to prevent the pin and receptacle contacts from stubbing.

  7. XMA Connector “Inertia Lock” The “inertia lock” prevents contacts from making connection until the mating halves are fully mated and locked together

  8. XMA Connector “Keying” The housings are offered with keying options. These physical keys are offered in three keying patterns: Keying 1/White housing Keying 2/ Red housing Keying 3/ Blue housing The location of the keys are the same in the 2, 3, 4, & 5 position housings.

  9. THE XMA SERIES IS ENGINEERING & MANUFACTURING FREINDLY Industry standard applicator for the XMA Series Bench press and applicator for the XMA Series YC hand tool for the XMA Series Applicators are available for semi-automatic and fully automatic termination equipment normally found in the manufacturing environment as well as standard hand tools and contact extraction tooling. Standard reels (Pin 7,000 pieces & Socket 8,000) for the XMA Series for semi-automatic and fully automatic assembly equipment are available for manufacturing.

  10. THE XMA SERIES SUMMARY • The XMA wire-to-wire connector with : • Reliable contact construction ideal for vibration conditions • Optional, secondary retainers for secure and stable seating of contacts • Secure, positive, inertia locking system • Tapered lead-in to prevent contact stubbing • Available in 2 to 6 circuits; keying options available • Applicable AWG #26 to 22 • RoHS compliant • Supported with termination tooling for manufacturing requirements
