  2. Registering • Enrol as UCL student • Get UCL ID card • Register for central IT services in Foster Court • Obtain userid and password • No appointment – just turn up

  3. UserIDs & Passwords • Your account is your responsibility • Don’t let anyone else use your account • Change your password regularly • Use the authentication service • https://myaccount.ucl.ac.uk

  4. IT essentials Z card • Your IT essentials Z card is part of the starter information pack. It contains: • A summary of all points made in this presentation • All of the website addresses mentioned

  5. Helpdesk • Helpdesk is the principal point of contact when things go wrong. • Ground floor Science Library • Open regular office hours Mon - Fri. • Phone: x25000 • Email: helpdesk@ucl.ac.uk • Reply within one working day

  6. E-mail – live@ucl • live@ucl is the mail system for new students • Use your UCL address for all internal emails • One of the first emails youreceive will tell you your email alias • firstname.lastname.year@ucl.ac.uk

  8. Halls of Residence • Broadband connection • Available in some (not all) halls • To check you can connect and to activate your line • Halls of Residence link on the ISD web page

  9. WiFi • eduroam wireless network everywhere (it’s free!) • Look for the eduroam (or RoamNet) logo • Connection surgery each week at Helpdesk
