Reminder – What is cross-acceptance? • Replacing 25 fire extinguishers in each cab • A different one for each country • with • 1 fire extinguisher in the cab • Conforming to any of the 25 national rules • because • Any one of the 25 extinguishers is capable of meeting the essential requirement of putting out a fire

History of Cross Acceptance • Started by several Members States in MOUs • Unit set up in the Agency – April 2008 • Adopted at EU level in Directive 2008/57 – July 2008 • List of Parameters to be checked – Agreed June 2009 • Commission Decision on the Management of the Reference Document – October 2010

  4. The “Essential Requirements” • Certainty • Simplicity

  5. Remember! • Cross Acceptance is only a “bridge” to Interoperability • One rule per parameter is better than 25!
