  1. Fairchild Power Switch Sep, 2004 Power Conversion

  2. Green FPS – A Subset of FPS • Green FPSTM is used in low standby power applications that meet the less-than-one-Wattstandards (i.e. Energy Star) • Green FPS supports environmentally friendly systems (Coffee Pot not in use and plugged into the wall uses less than 1 Watt standby power) • Green FPS is an integrated solution of many protection & control features built with the power switch MOSFET in a very small package • These highly integrated devices are proprietary and they do not have an exact competitive cross reference match

  3. Available Packages TO-3PF-5L TO-220F-4L TO-220F-5L TO-3P-5L TO-220-5L 7DIP 8DIP 8DIPH

  4. GFPS for Low Power Applications • Power Range : 2 ~ 10Watt • System Configuration • Flyback 1 output • Constant Voltage + Constant Current • Development Direction • Achieve compact size  power switch • Low std by power consumption • 0.3Watt  0.1Watt  60mWatt • No Y cap solution (Motorola Charger) • No bias winding to reduce BOM cost • FSC Solution • FSD200 : No bias winding solution • FSD210 : No Y-cap & low std by • FSDX321: 10Watt ~ for Auxiliary PS Ultra Portable - Mobile Phone - Camcorder - PDA /MD/CD - Digital Camera Auxiliary PS - White Goods - PC SMPS

  5. FSD200 / FSD210 2nd generation 1Chip FPS • □ Features • Single Chip 700V SenseFET Power Switch • Precision Fixed Operating Frequency with Frequency Modulation  134kHz±4kHz • Internal Start-up Switch & Soft Start up • Under Voltage Lockout with Hysterisis  8.7V/6.7V (FSD210), 7V/6V (FSD200) • Over Load Protection (OLP) • Auto-restart mode • □ Advantages • Low Power Consumption in Standby Mode (Burst Operation)  0.10W under @240Vac (FSD210) • Minimum External Components  Without bias winding, resistor, diode (FSD200)

  6. Block Diagram of FSD200 Built-in Start up. Frequency Modulation Voltage Mode Control Burst Control Protection Peak Current Limit Soft Start

  7. Block Diagram of FSD210 Built-in Start up. Frequency Modulation Voltage Mode Control Burst Control Protection Peak Current Limit Soft Start

  8. System Circuit Diagram Low cost EMI filter by Frequency Modulation FSD210 does not require Y-cap components in blue block FSD200 does not require components in red block

  9. FPS Protection - Over Load

  10. Features: Frequency Modulation for EMI Without Frequency Modulation, freq =100kHz Dead line for Peak level Dead line for Average level Peak wave form Average wave form • Fixed frequency oscillators generate EMI in a narrow band of the frequency spectrum • • Fairchild’s latest FPSTM devices modulate its frequency over a ±4kHz frequency range • • EMI is thus spread over a wider range of frequencies • • Allows simple EMI filters to be employed for meeting world • wide EMI requirements With Frequency Modulation, freq =134kHz

  11. Burst Operation Waveforms #1 Drain, #3 Vfb, #4 Idrain Burst operation @ 85Vac, No load Burst operation @ 265Vac, No load

  12. Features: Built in Start up with Soft Start • The built in startup provides trickle current until the supply reaches a present supply voltage threshold called Vstart • Switching starts and the peak current is gradually ratcheted up in fixed increments over a milliseconds • This soft startup mechanism helps prevent high current during startup from damaging the components in the SMPS Drain voltage Drain current Start up @ 265Vac Start up @ 85Vac or short circuit

  13. Application Circuit with FSD210 For No Y-cap Solution

  14. EMI Test Result with FSD210 For No Y-cap Solution AVERAGE & PEAK QUASI PEAK • TEST EQUIPMENT : Rohde & Schwarz EMI Test Receiver, ESCS30 • SAMSUNG TA CHARGER SET • (MADE BY DONGYANG:KR) • TEST CONDITION : Vo=5.1V, Io=600mA
