  1. Can COVID-19 lead to pneumonia? Most doctors and scientists are finding out a lot more about the Coronavirus or the COVID-19, every day just like the rest of us, as the pandemic spreads across the globe at a rapid pace. Even though about 80% of people recover from the Coronavirus disease, without needing any type of special treatment, only 1 and 6 people fall sick and develop difficulty in breathing. But it can develop into a more serious illness such as severe pneumonia and we shall see how. The link between the two Pneumonia may be bacterial, fungal or viral. In the case of the COVID, pneumonia is caused by a viral infection. Almost all serious cases of Coronavirus lead to pneumonia and sometimes severe pneumonia. Those who catch the COVID-19 are placed into 4 categories. ● ● ● ● Those who have the virus but no symptoms Those with minor symptoms who may be unaware that they can spread the virus Those who have flu like symptoms Those with severe pneumonia who develop symptoms such as the pneumonia cough with phlegm or pus. In the 4th case, ❖ The respiratory tree lining becomes injured, and thus causes inflammation. ❖ This irritates the nerves in the airway lining and even a speck of dust can induce the pneumonia cough. ❖ pointing to signs of mild and maybe severe pneumonia. ❖ Therefore, the lungs are not able to produce enough oxygen. If the person becomes infected, there can be outpouring of inflammatory material into the lungs If you have trouble breathing, consistent chest pains and the pneumonia cough, you should contact an online pulmonologist, and find out if you really need medical attention. Usually, mild cases need not be treated in a hospital or clinic. Treatment Diagnosing pneumonia might be a bit of a challenge right now, because the same logistics that are needed for this are required for diagnosing COVID. Otherwise, a case of severe pneumonia through COVID is diagnosed through a chest X-ray. There is no established treatment method apart from the supportive treatment where they ventilate the person and maintain high oxygen levels, until the lungs are able to function normally. People who

  2. develop severe pneumonia are very likely to be given antibiotics along with the anti-viral, to curb the bacterial infection if it surfaces. If there is no need for the patient to be hospitalised, follow the usual instructions during the lockdown period ● ● ● ● Stay home and get some rest Practice social distancing even with those in your house Wear a mask, as you do not want to spread the harmful droplets to others. Wash your hands regularly, Pneumonia recovery time Pneumonia recovery time can take 6 weeks maximum, if the symptoms are identified early. But pneumonia recovery time can be a lot longer if a person had other health problems. As mentioned before, the best treatment that is available is supportive care – the patient is kept alive until the disease takes its own course. If you are experiencing symptoms such as Cough, Fever, shortness of breath, contact an online general physician. Identifying symptoms early is important to shorten the COVID as well as pneumonia recovery time, and it is imperative not to panic. This is the time for us to keep in touch with our loved ones, stay safe and encourage others to do the same.
