Introduction • USA Health and Wellness Center • Health and psychological screening for the homeless community once a year. • Data has been gathered at each of these events devoid of PHI- eliminating the ability to track patients from year to year. • All participants are volunteer based and roles change yearly. Introduction • Masters Level Nursing Informatic Students: • Study theory, models, frameworks and EBPs • Have just started first of two 120 clinical hours • No Data Analysis course provide at the MSN level- only DNP • Students lack experience with raw data AMIA 2018 Informatics Educators Forum | amia.org

Methodology • Data-to-Decision Model • Decision–Created CQI project on how to address need and improve care based on findings and how to maintain these changes • Wisdom–Students recommended changes to care and screening provided based on the Homeless Community needs and academic process • Knowledge–Combined theorists/framework with research to guide topic • Information– Students created graphs to ID visual patterns • Data– Students were given access to raw data in a secure database AMIA 2018 Informatics Educators Forum | amia.org

Discussion and Conclusion • This course was focused heavily on CQI Theory and Processes within Nursing Informatics and course/learning objectives remained the same. • The main difficulty in the design of this course is that students have yet to have any clinical experience in the role of a NI. • Students have basic understanding of data collection (structured versus unstructured data), and that it should be used to determine interventions/outcomes, but do not know how to work with data to direct changes. • As a result each assignment was a mixture of theory and process with a focus on the Homeless Population.
