  2. The Flame Bearer • Scout Bassett - Paralympic long jumper • Scout Bassett is not only a Paralympic long jumper, but also an advocate for disability rights and inclusion. She was born in Nanjing, China with a congenital limb deficiency that resulted in her left leg being amputated above the knee at age five. She was later adopted by an American family and grew up in Michigan.Bassett began running track in high school and eventually transitioned to competing as a paralympian. In 2016, she represented Team USA at the Rio Paralympic Games where she placed fifth overall in women's long jump.Aside from her athletic achievements, Bassett uses her platform to raise awareness about disability rights and representation in media. She has been featured on numerous television shows and publications such as ESPN's Body Issue.Furthermore, Bassett is involved with non-profit organizations such as the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF) which provides opportunities for people with physical challenges to participate in sports.Scout Bassett serves as an inspiration not just for her athletic prowess but also for using her voice to promote inclusivity and equality for individuals with disabilities. • Oksana Masters - Paralympic biathlete and • Oksana Masters is a Ukrainian-born athlete who was adopted by an American mother at the age of seven. She was born with several birth defects attributed to radiation from the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. Despite her challenges, Masters has become one of the world's most decorated Paralympians.At the 2014 Winter Paralympics in Sochi, Russia, she won two bronze medals in cross-country skiing and silver in biathlon. Four years later at Pyeongchang 2018, Oksana took home two golds and a bronze medal for Team USA.But it's not just her athletic achievements that make Oksana remarkable; it's also her advocacy work off the field. She is an ambassador for Right To Play International, an organization that empowers children through sports and play programs. And in 2020 during the pandemic lockdown period, she used social media to encourage people to stay active while staying safe indoors.These eight unsung stories of resilient women Olympians and Paralympians are just a few examples of what can be achieved when we push ourselves beyond our limitations physically and mentally. She was only 19 years old when she lost her leg in a boating accident, but that didn't stop her from pursuing her dreams. In fact, it made her even more determined to succeed.After the accident, Sarah started racing in a wheelchair and quickly discovered that she had a natural talent for it. She went on to compete in several Paralympic Games and won numerous medals along the way.But what makes Sarah truly remarkable is not just her athletic achievements, but also how she has used her platform to inspire others. She founded an organization called "Adaptive Action Sports" which helps people with disabilities participate in action sports like snowboarding and skateboarding.Through this organization, Sarah has shown that anything is possible if you have determination and passion.
