Discussion Points • Metrics Tracking Methodologies • Elevated Blood Lead Employee Counseling • Behavior Based Safety (BBS) Observations supporting Blood Lead Reduction Program
Metrics Tracking Methodologies “If you measure it, you can manage it.” • However, what you measure, and how you measure, are equally important to your success in managing blood leads.
RSR supports a Medical Removal limit of 20 ug/dl PbB.Previous practice focused on measuring incremental ranges of blood lead levels. µg/dl
Now, all blood leads > 20 ug/dl are treated the same.By focusing on all blood leads >20 ug/dl, clear expectations have been established, and improvement is clearly evident.Blood Leads - Number of Employees > 20 µg/dl 2013 YTD
Metrics Tracking Methodologies • RSR has debunked the myth that long term employees’ blood leads cannot be reduced. • Expectations of blood lead reduction are not dependent on years of service. • Monetary motivations have played an important role in achieving such success.
Metrics Tracking Methodologies • RSR has demonstrated that through education and motivation, employee blood leads can be reduced. • Tracking most recent group of 5-year employees demonstrates this effect.

Behavior Based Safety (BBS) Observations supporting Blood Lead Reduction Program • All employees encouraged to participate in BBS program weekly. Primarily focused on accident reduction. • Employees with elevated blood leads are observed by peers, focusing on blood lead reduction opportunities; • Work practices generating excessive dust; • Positioning of body during tasks to minimize exposure; • Utilizing ventilation controls optimally?; • Adjustments of respirator while in exposure areas; • Review results of BBS with employee to achieve improvements;
Summary • Set a blood lead goal, and measure to that goal • RSR supports 20 ug/dl medical removal limit. • Provide peer mentoring/active coaching until all employees achieve blood lead goal. • Utilize Behavior Based Safety techniques to reinforce proper work practices to reduce employee blood leads.
