  2. What is it? WageIndicator is an idea Its mission is: • Share and compare wage information • Contribute to a transparant labour market • Provide free, accurate wage data through salary checks on national websites • Collect wage data through web surveys

  4. Websites & organisations • The (board of the) WageIndicator Foundation is tripartite: trade union, university, media • Teams on the national level are similar: (trade union) journalist, academic researcher and media • End of 2007 worldwide 80 engaged collaborators

  6. What is minimum? • We try to give minimum wages per month, week, day, hour, including special benefits. • We encourage reporting underpayment (so far only English and Polish) Resulting in: you know now what you are entitled to!

  9. How do we know about real wages? • We create an attractive website, so people love to come and check wage information • We invite users to complete our salary survey, and they can win a prize

  11. For whom is the survey • Employees • Selfemployed • Students, trainees • Disabled • Pensioners

  12. Everybody equal • Employees and self employed get the same questions • Thus we compare informal and formal occupational groups on the labour market with different contracts

  13. Time and wage questions worldwide • The salary survey is addressing different groups in the labour market, but they get the same questions about time, contract, wages, benefits. • Similar means we can compare groups within a country and cross country.

  14. Gender or minority Men, women, mothers, fathers, young, old, or from a different country do get the same questions. The result: we can analyze where the pay gap is exactly, and come up with policy tips for trade unions to close the pay gap.

  15. Is WageIndicator perfect? • WageIndicator intends to show what is really going on • WageIndicator cannot be perfect, but together we approach perfection • How?

  17. Who does what? You may: • Post a banner at your own website • Ask your friends and colleagues to do the same • Tell us which of your media partners might want to join this project. In Russia it is rb.ru – Independent Media. We would contract these partners • Encourage researchers that you know of to help all of us to analyse the data We will: • Do the wage calculations and bring a salary checker online for you • Train journalists from your organizations to help us manage Mojazarplata

  18. And who pays for this dream? • We look for funding – great if we get it • But we don’t wait – go for it now!
