Exploring the art of Theatre By: Norma Jefferson
What I have learned • “I am your audience, and you are mine” • We are all learning together • Coming into theatre I knew I was going to be very nervous to act in front of others! I had never taking theatre and thought I would suck, hearing those word helped!!!!
The Stage • The stage is the center of audience attention • Many different types of stages: • thrust stage: extends to audience on 3 sides • proscenium stage: primary feature if large arch, audience directly faces stage • theatre in the round: situated in center of theatre, audience faces all sides
Acting donts • Don’t stop in the middle of skit or monologue • Don’t come up clueless of what you going to say • Don’t announce mess ups
Critical thinking: The Nutcracker • Based on the called “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King”, written by E.T.A Hoffman • Choreographed by Marius Petipa • Music written by Tchaikovsky • In 1892, the first showing of the Nutcracker took place at the MariinskyThaetre of Russia. • Nutcracker showed up in America in 1940, performed by Ballet Russe
Critical Thinking: Romeo and Juliet • Written by William Shakespeare • Play of love and tragedy • The earliest edition was a quarto printed in 1597 • Earliest performance was documented in 1662staged by William Davenant
