  12. What is influencing the HE Landscape right now? • The 2008 Recession: • Led to a change in UK Governments ideals of who should be paying for the debt. • Changed from the UK Government to you as students. • England HE Institutions have no more money due to the increased fees. • However expectations from new students has increased. • Who is attracted to Universities has changed. Twitter: @UBUbristol | www.ubu.org.uk

  13. What is influencing the HE Landscape right now? • The Fees and increased expectations has led to: • An increase in HE Institutions wanting to understand students as customers and a ‘market’ they must tap into • Students becoming picker with which institutions they choose, HE institutions have had to get better at marketing their services and WHY you should choose them. Twitter: @UBUbristol | www.ubu.org.uk

  14. What is influencing the HE Landscape right now? • The perceived marketisation of HE institutions has led to: • Increased pressure on academics • NUS lobbying for partnership ideals • An increase in the number of private HE Institutions- which are not governed or quality assured • HE Institutions partnering up with other institutions to offer even more for students e.g GW4 Twitter: @UBUbristol | www.ubu.org.uk

  15. What is influencing the HE Landscape right now? • MOOCS and Globalisation: • Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCS) for short are small one unit courses that you do can do online FOR FREE! • How does this alter the HE Landscape? • Adult learners and a change in the demographic of who is learning • Showing the capabilities of online courses and the power of globalisation Twitter: @UBUbristol | www.ubu.org.uk
