  1. The Glory of God Returns Acts 2:1-12

  2. Introduction • Pentecost! • 50 days after Passover • Considered the birthday of the church

  3. Shavuot • First grain harvest of the early summer • Moses receives the Torah from God • A pilgrimage day for all males to appear before God • Israel enters into the Covenant with God at Mount Sinai

  4. Scripture • Tongues of fire (perhaps utterances of fire – God’s words are fire) • Literal story: Believers spoke in different languages • Allegorical story: Believers uttered the evangelical words about the faith

  5. “What does this mean” (v. 12) • What does it mean to follow Jesus? • How do you know that Jesus is the Messiah? • What does one gain by following Jesus?

  6. For us today • The Light of God returns • Not just in the Temple • Rather in each believer’s heart • The power of the Holy Spirit is available to all believers
