    2. Thoughts to Ponder The top 10 jobs projected in 2010 didnt exist in 2004. We are now preparing students for jobs that do not yet exist. Fewer than 2 in 10 eighth graders are on target to be ready for college-level work by the time they graduate from high school. The level of academic achievement students attain by 8th grade has a larger impact on their college and career readiness by the time they graduate from high school than anything that happens academically in high school.

    3. Thoughts to Ponder Cont. Academic readiness for college and career can be improved when students develop behaviors in the upper elementary grades and in middle school that are known to contribute to successful academic performance.

    6. We need to know Math, English, Science,Social Studies... Mastery in K-5 will ease transition to middle and high school and ensure probability of being prepared for college.

    7. We need to know ACT Explore (given in 8th grade): first of 3 steps designed to determine if students are on target for post-secondary education. Indicates: Student strength and weaknesses in core subjects. How to improve weaknesses Career interests How to stay on track for college readiness

    8. We need to know What Hamilton County Middle School students want us to know: 42% want help with study skills 35% want help with public speaking 33% want help with postsecondary options 32% want help with math 31% want help with writing 25% want help with reading 18% want help with computers
