  2. Homeowner Eligibility Guidelines • FUEL TANKS (MUST BE REFERRED TO AN UNDERWRITER) • A. The following Fuel Tanks are ineligible for Escaped Fuel Liability Coverage • (HO 248): • Outdoor Underground Fuel Tanks over 14 years old • Indoor Fuel Tanks over 19 years old on a non-masonry floor • Outdoor Above Ground Fuel Tanks over 19 years old not double-walled or in a containment tub B. The following requirements apply to all eligible Fuel Tanks if the HO 248 is requested: • Proof of installation date required (if no proof, date home built will be used) • Installation must have been completed by a DEP-Licensed Contractor • All tanks over 10 years old must be covered under an annual maintenance program. Proof of maintenance contract must be provided. • Proof of satisfactory soil analysis and volumetric (vacuum) test must be provided for Underground tanks over 10 years old. All other tanks require an ultrasonic reading and visual inspection test. All inspections must have been conducted by a DEP-Certified Tank Tester and be dated within the past 12 months (New tests will be required at every future 3rd renewal).

  3. Above Ground Fuel Tanks Double-walled: These tanks have an inner tank that is enclosed by an outer tank. The outer jacket is designed to hold and contain the contents of the inner tank, should a leak develop. Containment tub or enclosure: greatly reduces the possibility of a discharge of oil if the tank should fail

  4. Underground Fuel Tanks Soil analysis and volumetric (vacuum) test: A soil analysis check for petroleum in the soil around the tank. A vacuum test applies a vacuum to the tank, and then measures to determine whether the vacuum holds. Ultrasonic reading and visual inspection test: An ultrasonic reading measures the average tank shell metal thickness. The visual inspection test must be performed by a DEP-Certified Tank Tester.
