  4. Prayer What is OUR vision for St Joseph’s College, Katherine? Basically…Who are we and what are we about?

  5. Quality Street are all different: they would not be Quality Street if they were all the same. And when I come to meet the Maker of all this QUALITY, he will not ask me: “Why weren’t you Mother Teresa?” He will be asking me if I have grown as the person he called me to be. In Catholic schools we are not called to try to make people into something that they are not, but to invite people to be and to grow as who they already are. Let us be people of quality! Let us do the ordinary things of life in an extraordinary way! Let us make extraordinary use of our ordinary talents, because we are all called to be FULLY ALIVE, to be saints of God.

NTCET Pattern • A total of 200 credits must be achieved to receive the NTCET • Each Semester length subject is worth 10 credits • A total of 140 credits must receive a ‘C’ grade or better across Stage 1 and 2 • All of the subjects in the COMPULSORY sections of Stage 1 must achieve a ‘C’ grade or better to meet these requirements (PLP, Literacy, Numeracy) • A further 60 credits must achieve a ‘C’ grade or better at Stage 2 • A further 40 credits of ‘Free Choice’ must achieve a ‘C’ grade over Stage 1 and 2

Course Recognition • Other courses can be recognised in the NTCET • e.g. VET qualifications, Community Learning • VET units can be used in the ‘Free Choice’ subject areas • Competencies from a MAXIMUM of two Certificate I qualifications can be used towards the NTCET • A nominal 70 hours of VET will earn 10 credits

SATAC Entry • To be eligible for an Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR) • 90 credits must be completed at Stage 2 • of which 60 must be from Tertiary Admission Subjects (TAS) • All but Stage 2 Community Studies, one version of the Research Project and modified subjects are TAS (Tertiary Admission Subjects) subjects • For university entrance, students require • NTCET • At least 90 credits of study in TAS and Recognised Studies at Stage 2

Stage 1 Subjects • Students study six subjects each semester (12 in total) • Compulsory • English or Literacy for 2 Semesters • Certificate III Christian Ministry and Theology for 2 Semesters • Mathematics or Numeracy for 1 Semester (do two) • Electives • Students select from available electives to complete the pattern

Stage 2 Subjects • Students study 5 full year subjects • Compulsory: • Certificate III Christian Ministry & Theology • Electives • Students may choose the other 4 subjects • 2 electives must be Stage 2 subjects • For University Entrance (ATAR) students need to complete 4 full year Stage 2 subjects and another semester of study at Stage 2 level

  28. VETis, Work Experience and School Based Apprenticeships Mr Ron Green

  29. Vocational Education & Training in Schools • VETiS – This is where a Registered Training Organisation such as CDU or GTNT are funded by the NT Government to provide Cert I – III courses for NT secondary schools.

  30. Structured Work Placement • An agreement between an employer, student & parents and College where students undertake a work placement as part of a VETiS course, usually a 2 week block

  31. School Based Apprenticeships • School Based Apprenticeships – a business initiated opportunity that allows an apprentice to complete Year 12 while working on an apprenticeship on negotiated days.

Future Careers counselling service The Vision: • To have a dedicated Careers room where information on pathways, universities, job guides, careers, etc. will be available for students to access. • A qualified Careers Practitioner will be on hand to answer questions, assist in research and provide career guidance. • Assistance with resume writing, e-portfolios, cover letters, job applications.
