  4. Societal Shifts • The War forced changes in society • Mass movement of people throughout the country • Opportunities opened for many. • Populations faced higher scrutiny

  6. Fair Employment • Discrimination in wartime industries • African-Americans shut out of skilled jobs • Civilian military jobs segregated • March on Washington 1941 • Organized by A. Philip Randolph • Promoted to end this discrimination • Role of Executive Order 8802

  7. Double V Campaign • Campaign to stamp out twin evils • Fascism aboard • Discrimination at home • Developed through the efforts of African American newspapers • Promoted putting pressure on the Roosevelt Administration
