Rhetorical Questions • Asking a question to make a point, but NOT expecting an answer. • Good – “If practice makes perfect, and no one's perfect, then why practice?” • Good – “How many roads must a man walk down before you call him a man?” • Bad – “Have you ever thought about dogs? Well, I have and today that’s my topic!”

  6. Student Examples • Parallelism – We can always give, a lot, even more, or a bunch. / The first, the last, the eternal. / The alpha, the omega, the beginning, the end. “I was raised on potatoes, spuds, roots.” SING ALONG!!!! • Antithesis – Life is enjoyable until you’re in the passenger seat. / This is the oldest I’ve ever been and the youngest, I’ll ever be. / Dying is easy, it’s living that’s hard…  • If you claim to be alive, you’ve got to start living. • Rhetorical question –If homework is work, why aren’t we getting paid? • Who do you pray to when you’re dead? • If you can’t sleep at school, why should you do work at home?
