  2. How Does Biomass Work? Biomass, or biofuel, is a renewable energy source that uses animal waste and plants as resources. To create the electrical generation stored within the biofuel, the biofuel most be burned so that it can heat water, to turn a turbine. Biomass can also be converted into a liquid, for its use as a transportation. It is can be used directly for manufacturing.

  3. How Does Biomass Work? (cont.) Biomass is not only created by burning, but in other ways as well. One type of biomass is how the bacteria in animal waste to create methane. The methane is used to do the basically the same thing as the burning. Another method is using garbage to create fuel. There are many ways to create biomass fuel.

  4. How does Biomass impact the Environment? • Biomass is not only an renewable energy source, but it is also an natural resource. • The byproducts of biomass decomposes safely and quickly, without a large impact on the environment. • The burning of biomass produces carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, and oxides of nitrogen and in some cases oxides of sulfur.

  5. How does Biomass impact the Environment? (cont.) • These gases do have negative effects to the environment, because they are green house gasses. • The effect that biomass has on the environment isn’t nearly as bad as with fossil fuels. Myth Fossil Fuels and Biomass have the same effect on the environment.

  6. Where in the World does Biomass Work Best? Does Biomass Work Well in CT? Biomass works well any where for a few reasons. Since there is no place in the world where animal or human waste along with vegetables and such is not available. It works best when there is plenty of both sources, but since there is more waste in a city, and more agriculture in rural areas, it truly works well anywhere. It will work really well in CT because not only is there agriculture, but there is also city life, so, those two combined make a perfect environment for biomass fuel usage.

  7. Fossil Fuels VS. Biomass Fossil Fuels • Non- renewable • Creates green-house gasses Biomass • Renewable resources • Is a clean and efficient way to produce energy.
