  1. CrIMSS Emissivity DR Status Xu Liu, Dan Zhou NASA Langley Research Center Susan Kizer SSAI, Hampton, VA 23681 May20, 2013 CrIMSS EDR Telecon

  2. Status • Two DRs written • Increase emissivity hinge points • Use emissivity map as first guess • Implemented the first DR • Very minimum code changes • The CrIMSS offline code successfully run with 15 emissivity hinge points • In the process of evaluating the retrieval results • Should improve ozone product • Will need to see if more points are needed for band3 • Have developed tools for interpolating and generating emissivity LUTs • Evaluate performance impact using both LaRC (Dan) and UW ( Eva) emissivity databases • Will proceed to DR2 once we have defined the new hinge points • The global map will be saved at newly selected hinge points • Stratify according to lat/long/time • Should provide better first guess to CC

  3. Dan’s Jul. MMC emissivity at 890 cm-1ε890 .

  4. CrIMSS Retrieved vs IASI emissivity

  5. Increase surface emissivity hinge points • freq=[680., 780., 815., 850., 900., 925., 950., 1214., 1245., 1300., 2200., 2550.]; • freq=[680., 780., 815., 850., 900., 925., 950., 1050, 1080., 1095.,1214., 1245., 1300., 2200., 2550.];

  6. What’s next • Finalize the hinge points locations • Edit DR to describe specific code changes and LUT changes • CrIMSS-CLIM-LUT • CrIMSS-IR-ATM-NOISE • CrIMSS-SFC-EMIS-LUT • Deliver the new LUTs to all team members • Evaluate EDR performance impact • To start to prepare for global emissivity map • Generate new LUT (CrIMSS-IR-SFC-EMIS-MAP?) • Trade spatial resolution and temporal resolution of the initial guess • Evaluate performance improvement using focus day data • Update the ATMS and CrIS bias LUTs • CrIMSS-MW-RTM-BIAS-LUT • CrIMSS-IR-RTM-BIAS-LUT
