  2. SPEEDING • Legislation in NSW makes it an offence to travel at a speed greater than that specified by the speed limit. • Speeding, however, can also involve travelling too fast for the prevailing conditions, despite travelling under the posted speed limit.

  3. SPEEDING • Speeding is the biggest killer on our roads. • In NSW speeding is a factor in 40 per cent of road deaths. • This means on average around 177 people die each year in speed related crashes every year

  6. Crash Risk • Speeding increases the risk of a crash and the severity of the crash outcome. • A key issue in speeding-related crashes is that most motorists underestimate the distance needed to stop.

  7. Stopping distances • A car travelling at 60km/h in dry conditions takes about 38 metres to stop. • A car travelling 80km/h takes more then half the length of a football field to come to a stop
