Initial notes • Typical convention of a child in a horror film  • Dark room at night suggests danger  • Canted angle spinning around a light disorientating the audience  • Music is intense and suggests danger • Camera shows us the boy then veers off the the side suggesting that there is something else to be seen in the room  • Camera is tracking through the house tracking down danger  • A shadow of a head is seen in th window and moves suggesting that its inside the house  • Camera going through the wall amplifies the idea of supernatrual themes 

  3. analysis • In this opening sequence we are seeing a typical horror film narrative, we see the problem at the start and throughout the film were going to find out where it came from and how they are going to get rid of it. The target audience for a film like this would most likely be from the ages of 16-40 its unrealistic and more for the younger generation. There are some key conventions used in the opening like having a child sleeping, jarring music played by string instruments and canted camera angles. We are not introduced top any characters we only see the head of a scary looking ,an and ask who he is. The camera work in this scene is always moving and hard to follow adding an unsettling atmosphere and the jarring music goes alongside making us uncomfordable.
