This course equips preservice teachers with essential skills for effective language and literacy instruction. Participants will explore the significance of language and culture in educational contexts and social action. They will develop strategies tailored to diverse learner needs, including socio-cultural and economic backgrounds. Emphasizing the integration of information technology, the course focuses on innovative planning and evaluation methods. Through philosophical inquiry and critical perspectives on literacy, teachers will learn to create inclusive learning environments that support all students.

Preservice teachers will
be able to discuss the role of language and culture in education and social action;
develop a range of appropriate strategies for teaching language and literacy which reflect the needs and preferred learning styles of learners;
recognise and acquire specific strategies which address the socio-cultural perspective of learners, such as language background, social and economic background, gender;
use information technology in planning, teaching and evaluating learning in language and literacy;
document approaches to literacy education which demonstrate how philosophical inquiry can enhance teaching and learning in partnership settings;
