  3. Alliteration • Consonant sounds repeated at the beginnings of words

  4. Assonance • Repeated vowel sound in a line or lines of poetry

  5. Hyperbole • Exaggeration often used for emphasis

  6. Onomatopeia • Words that imitate the sound they are naming

  7. Metaphor • A direct comparison of two unlike things.

  8. Simile • A comparison of two things using “like or “as”

  9. Imagery • Most images are visual, but they can also appeal to the sense of sound, touch, taste, or smell
