Using the New Session Wizard for Screen Capture To use the New Session Wizard for screen capture (cont.): • After you make the appropriate configurations, click OK, and then click Next. • In the Output File screen, type a path and file name, and then click Next. • In the Output File Distribution screen, click the File will stream from a Web server or play directly on a computer option button, and then click Next. • In the Profile Selection screen, click the appropriate profile, and then click Next. • In the Display Information screen, type the optional information that you want to appear, and then click Next. • In the Settings Review screen, review the setting you have chosen, and then click Finish. • When the dialog box appears, click OK. • On the Tools menu, click Options, click the General tab, and then clear the Minimize during screen capture session, then stop on restore check box. To use the New Session Wizard for screen capture: • Click Start, point to Programs, point to Windows Media, and then click Windows Media Encoder. • In the Welcome to Windows Media Encoder dialog box, click the Broadcast, capture, or convert a file using the New Session Wizard option button, and then click OK. • In the Session Selection screen, click the Capture audio or video from attached devices or computer screen option button, make sure the Begin capturing when this wizard finishes check box is cleared, and then click Next. • In the Device Options screen, specify the source types. In the Video box, click Screen Capture in the list. • Click Configure next to the Video box. • In the Screen Capture Properties dialog box, click Entire Screen in the Capture Source list. Recording Screen Activity and Your Voice To record screen activity and your voice: • In the main user interface of the encoder, click Start to begin encoding. • Begin narrating as you move the cursor about the screen and demonstrate the software. Speak clearly into the microphone and try to avoid rapid movement of the screen • When you are done encoding, maximize the encoder to end the session; or, click the Stop button if you kept the encoder maximized during the encoding process. • Note the contents of the Encoding Results dialog box, and then click Close. • Click Close to close the encoder. A warning message will appear, asking if you want to save the encoding session. Recording Screen Activity and Your Voice

Using the Encoder to Convert an .avi File To use the encoder to convert an .avi file: • Click Start, point to Programs, point to Windows Media, and then click Windows Media Encoder. • In the Welcome to Windows Media Encoder dialog box, click the Broadcast, capture, or convert a file using the New Session Wizard option button, and then click OK. • In the first screen of the New Session Wizard, click the Convert and audio or video file into a Windows Media file option button, clear the Begin capturing when this wizard finishes check box, and then click Next • In the next screen, specify the path and file names of the source file and the .wmv (video) file to be created, and then click Next. • In the next screen, click the File will stream from a Web server or play directly on a computer option button, and then click Next. To use the encoder to convert an .avi file (cont.): • In the next screen, choose a profile that uses the Windows Media Screen codec, and then click Next. • In the next screen, type the information (title, author, and so on) that you want to appear when the content is later played, and then click Next. • In the next screen, review the settings and make sure that they are correct, and then click Finish. • When the dialog box appears, click OK. • In the main user interface of the encoder, click Start to begin the conversion process. • When the process completes, note the contents of the Encoding Results dialog box, and then click Close. • Click Close to close the encoder. A warning message will appear, asking whether you want to save the encoding session. If you do, the file will have a .wme extension. Using the Encoder to Convert an .avi File

Setting Up the Encoding Session To set up the encoding session: • Open the student project. • Click Start, point to Programs, point to Windows Media, and then click Windows Media Encoder. • In the Welcome to Windows Media Encoder dialog box, click Create a custom encoding session, and then click OK. • In the New Session dialog box, on the Sources tab, you must select the source types and source group for this session. • In Source types for this session, select the Video check box, and then click New. • In the Name box, type a name for the source group. • In the Video box, click screen capture in the list. To set up the encoding session (cont.): • In the Audio box, make sure default audio device is selected. • Click the Profile tab, and then select the profile that will work best in this session, or click the Manage button to access Profile Manager and create a custom profile. • Click the Output tab, select the Archive to file check box, and then type the path and file name of the archive file. Speeding Up or Slowing Down the Presentation To speed up or slow down the presentation: • In the New Session dialog box, click the Advanced tab. • Click On to enable time compression, and then click Properties. • Move the slider to adjust the amount of acceleration or deceleration, and then click OK. Removing Pauses To remove pauses: • In the Session Properties dialog box, click the Advanced tab. • Click On to enable time compression, and then click Properties. • Select the Enable pause removal check box. • If you want to generate a log file to keep track of the removed parts, click Options, type the file name, and then click OK. • Click OK again.
