  21. Guidelines for Schools as Authorized Shelters • CE’s that become shelters and provide meals for evacuees. • Get credited for in their Entitlement Account for USDA foods used. • Need to provide information to TDA Commodity Operations. ESC 1 Food and Nutrition Program

  22. School Districts opening shelters Notify immediately John Kyere at TDA via e-mail at John.Kyere@TexasAgriculture.gov or at 512-475-0077 to advise of shelters and shelter locations that will be opened. ESC 1 Food and Nutrition Program

Guidelines… • If a CE uses USDA foods to provide meals, within 30 days of closing a shelter, the district must track and report the following: • Distribution period: dates USDA foods are used to assist in congregate feeding • Commodity description: the type of USDA food used with USDA commodity code (reference Texas Unified Nutrition Programs System – TX-UNPS) • Number of cases: the quantity of USDA food used • Number of persons served ESC 1 Food and Nutrition Program

  24. Guidelines… • If possible plan meals consisting of: • Meat component • Fruit and Vegetable component • Bread component • Milk component • Meals not having components will be reimbursed for foods used ESC 1 Food and Nutrition Program

Providing USDA Foods • Disaster relief organizations such as: • American Red Cross • Salvation Army • Primary groups responsible for disaster feeding • Local Food First • USDA foods located in school district warehouses • CE’s require prior approval from TDA • Proper transfer documentation kept ESC 1 Food and Nutrition Program
