  2. Final Challenge Scoring - Logbook Facts: • 25% of the overall Score • 50% of Documentation awards • Last Challenge: (27 Schools) • Scores: 7% - 24 % • 14 Schools scored above 20% • 11 Schools scored between 12-20 %

  3. Final Challenge Scoring - Logbook • Logbook included in Panasonic parts kit. • All project work should be recorded • Completed pages should be signed and dated to establish a chronology • See instructions printed in the front of the logbook, including: • Use ink • Record all meetings • Include all raw data

  4. Final Challenge Scoring - Logbook • Each logbook will be evaluated by at least two judges. • In keeping with the rules of the design challenge and basic purpose of the engineering logbook, the logbook will be judged in three categories: • Logical/Chronological Flow of Ideas: The process leading to the final design must be substantiated either in theory by calculation or empirically by experimentation. • Proof of Performance: Evidence of operation of the device within design parameters, including final test results. • Adherence to Logbook Procedures: Basic "housekeeping" practices as outlined in the rules and logbook including signatures, dates, titles, table of contents, etc.

  5. Final Challenge Scoring - Logbook 27 Books to judge Each book will be evaluated by at least two judges. Score Sheets (Rounds 1 & 2) 2 Weeks to Judge

  6. Grading Engineering Logbook …. Should have enough information that a colleague should be able to understand your decisions, reasoning and reconstruct your work. • Device performance … • Oral presentation … • Detailed documentation of their work …….

  7. Logical / Chronological flow of ideas The process leading to the final design must be substantiated either in theory by calculation or empirically by experimentation (60 Points) Project/Idea Description – 15 pts Details of design processes – 20 pts Flow of ideas – 20 pts Valued credit - 5 pts

  8. Proof of Performance Evidence of operation of the device within design parameters, including final test results (30 Points) Explanation of performance testing – 10 pts Details of preliminary competition – 10 pts Details of final testing – 10 pts

  9. Adherence to logbook procedures Basic “housekeeping” practices as outlined in the rules and logbook including signatures, dates, titles, table of contents, etc. The format is neat and readable – 16 pts Entries are signed and dated properly – 12 pts No Blank or Missing pages – 12 pts Errors properly corrected 12 pts References to other pages/figures are properly noted - 8 pts

  10. Comments … • The team did not read the logbook guidelines. The book has no description, detailed problems nor solutions, only taped diagrams. This is an example of what not to do. • The team did not discuss the final testing after the changes were made. The problems were documented but the testing of the final design is omitted. • I am very impressed with the proof of performance from this team. They clearly explain the problems and the way to go about resolving the issues. Good job. Left a page blank on pg 166 but were consistent with the guidelines. No penalty awarded. Judge Name: Judge Doe Date: 4/6/12
