  2. Performance Standards • In order to ensure our survival as a free nation, students at all grade levels in Wisconsin are required to learn about the principles and ideals upon which the United States is founded and understand the world in which they live.

  3. Geography 4,8,12 • Written as performance standards (example from grade 4): Give examples to show how scientific and technological knowledge has led to environmental changes, such as pollution prevention measures, air-conditioning, and solar heating

  4. History 4,8,12 • Example Grade 8: Use historical evidence to determine and support a position about important political values, such as freedom, democracy, equality, or justice, and express the position coherently

  5. Political Science and Citizenship • Grade 12 example: Describe and analyze the origins and consequences of slavery, genocide, and other forms of persecution, including the Holocaust

  6. Economics • Grade 4: Describe how personal economic decisions, such as deciding what to buy, what to recycle, or how much to contribute to people in need, can affect the lives of people in Wisconsin, the United States, and the world

  7. Behavioral Sciences • Grade 12: Defend a point of view related to an ethical issue such as genetic engineering, declaring conscientious objector status, or restricting immigration
