  1. 2012Phoenix Lacrosse IF You can not stop the ball… You can not get control You Can Not score! You Can Not WIN! DEFENSE IS KING

  2. MAN / BALL: • KNOW where your MAN is at all times • KNOW where the BALL is at all times

  3. STOP THE BALL: • Force a pass • Force a retreat from the goal • Force the ball outside around the perimeter

  4. NEVER PLAY THE BALL STRAIGHT UP: • Take away the opponents ability to go straight to the goal • Take the inside if the ball is up top • Force your opponent to pick the outside

  5. SLIDE AT FULL SPEED: COMMIT • Be under control, head up, and stick controlled • Stop the ball

  6. PLAY DEFENSE WITH YOUR HEAD AND FEET • NOT YOUR STICK!!!! • THE CLOSER YOUR MAN IS TO THE BALL • THE CLOSER • YOU ARE TO HIM!

  7. Defensive Calls • DICE-WHITE: Box in TWO Primary Def Zone • NICKEL-RED: Box in ONE Man Down • MASTER- YELLOW: Box in ONE Lock off BEST Player • PHOENIX-BLUE: Man to Man Backside Slides • ARMY-GREEN: Man to Man Adjacent Slides • SLAM-BLACK: Total Lock OffStrip the ball from the weakest ball handler
