  2. Talking about Nemertea. • The Phylum nemertea is characterized as extremely long and thin worms. • Origin in Cambian period 500 millions ago. • It has up to 4 to 5 species. • Lives in the ocean.

Characteristics Etymology • Come from Greek Nemertes a sea nymph, daughter Nereus and Doris in Greek mythology • Flattened • Body has more than 2 layers • Body has a through gut with mouth and the anus. • No body cavity • Blood system has blood vessels • Has a rectractableectodermal proboscis. • Asexual/sexual reproduction • Most species are carnivores and predatory Characteristics

Anatomy • They differ by their long protrusible proboscis. • Protrusible proboscis is a tubular extension from the oral region. • They have muscular body wall that have both muscular & longitudinal muscles. • Nemerteans has a well developed nervous system with cephalic ganglia and a nerve network connecting feeling organs.
